So, if you have ever put these words "over promise" in the google search engine, there will be thousands of results and most of them will say this "over promise- under deliver". I am not exactly sure how I feel about this. I love the concept of over promise, I do not love the fact that the failure rate resulting from over promising is high.
This week I want to delve into the concept of creating ExtraOrdinary Customer Experiences. If you focused on that aspect of your business for 365 days straight, what would your brand look like and how much would your accomplish and on what scale?
Some business experts will say that it is a crime to over-promise because there is the possibility that you absolutely will not be able to deliver especially if you are a new business. On the flip side of that coin, there are business experts that will tell you to set the bar high for your new business, go out there charging and then make sure and deliver on your over promises.
So here are my rules because I fall somewhere in the middle.
1.) Your over-promise must be articulated to your end consumer.
2.) Start small and then increase as you achieve milestones.
3.) Make sure that wow factor is being shared by your consumers.
4.) Ask for feedback. (especially about emotions)
5.) Give a gift of thanks and make them relevant.
